Paris, 29 July 2025 — CarbonFarm is proud to announce its partnership with BENEO and Rikolto on a project to promote sustainable rice cultivation in Viet Nam’s Mekong Delta.
Funded by the Government of Flanders under the Flanders International Climate Action Programme, the project aims to scale up an innovative value chain model, connecting small-scale farmers to markets, and creating additional incentives for cultivating sustainable rice. This 3-year project will train over 1,000 rice farmers in alignment with Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) standards.
The Mekong Delta, Viet Nam’s major rice-producing region, is highly susceptible to climate change and has become a critical area for implementing sustainable agriculture.
The project aims to train over 1,000 rice farmers in alignment with Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) standards, supporting a transition to practices that cut greenhouse gas emissions, reduce water use, and improve long-term farm resilience, without compromising yields.
By supporting the adoption of sustainable practices, we aim to halve methane emissions from rice, a crop responsible for 15% of Viet Nam’s GHG emissions, reduce water use by 30% in a region already facing frequent droughts and improve long-term crop resilience without compromising yields.
CarbonFarm leverages its satellite-based MRV solution, enabling accurate and transparent data collection on water use and emission reductions. BENEO supports the development of the market for SRP-certified rice ingredients, while Rikolto will lead farmer training on the ground.
Together, we’re creating an end-to-end value chain model that rewards climate-smart agriculture and connects smallholders to sustainable markets.
